Object with a narrative

For module 5, we were charged with taking an ordinary object and giving it a story. We were told to choose one of three different objects and to give our images a clear narrative. I had so many ideas starting out. So many. So few turned out the way I wanted them to, but then thats almost always the way things turn out. I like the shots myself but worried that nobody would understand the narrative but I used them anyway. I havent heard from the teacher yet. Who knows what he'll say.

Here they are. Well, the two I chose anyway, and a third image I created just in case. The first image is my favorite.

Well, I'm not sure how clear the narratives are, but the images are beautiful. I think the top one may be the clearest in terms of the narrative, but since you told me what it was before I saw the image, I'm not really sure. I love the image though. It's quite striking. The shoe is so sculptural in the light you've set it in, and your model feels distant but attached because he's caught in that little space in the frame. The one with the chair isn't coming across to me, but I've only had a few hours sleep, so, that would probably be why. I love the sentiment I get from it. The clothing is gently draped over the chair, it feels masculine but not cavalier. I hope that's what you were looking for. The light and selective focus are so nice.

Oh boy--sorry. I'm starting to drift off, and I've got a long night of shooting with strobes ahead of me. None of that sweet natural light you have here. :)

Oh my gosh, I forgot about all that work you had to do tonight. Yikes, and you took the time to check out my blog. You rock!

Seems like everybody but the teacher likes the first image the most. He thinks the second one is stronger though he likes both.

The chair image isnt as strong in my opinion though I do think its pretty. I love that window light. Im really lucky where that is concerned. But it was a fall back picture and one where the story is mostly about the chair, which was one of the three objects we were allowed to use. I had all kinds of other ideas for chairs but they didnt work out. Nothing new there. LOL! And I totally fell into that image. The stuff was on the chair already, Ryan put it there, and I just took the pic. Well, I took all the other shit off the chair so it was just the jeans, and positioned the chair in the right place and had to move the table, but yeah, it was pretty much already set up for me. That one really fell into my lap.

I sure hope you are already asleep but you probably arent. Good luck playing with your new strobes! Even though you'll be up late, I bet its great working with your new lights. How did they work out, by the way?

I love them all, but here's my order of preference.

Chair
Shoe with Ryan off in the distance
Show with partial Ryan

Why?

Just my overall sentiments to these objects at face value and their meaning to me personally.

A pair of pants on a chair in a home with daylight pouring in clinches my heart more than a misplaced shoe and the owner of the shoe with his back to the shoe so far removed from the shoe.

The lighting is amazing.

If I were to choose between the two shoe shots, I'd pick the shoe with full Ryan off in the distance. It gives me more sense of either longing or independence. Longing for the viewer, and independence for the owner of the shoe walking away from the shoe.

It add mystery too. Who is he walking away from? Or who is he leaving his shoe with? And why? What's going on here? Why is he walking barefoot in the desert? And why is it just one shoe?

Did the shoe fly off on impact???

See, so many questions.

And yet, the pants on the chair too, is someone coming back? Or has it been left behind as well.

All of these deep rooted emotions. Very striking photos Erin.

The strobes worked out quite nicely, thanks. I was up all night, but it was so much fun using them. I just wish the night had been more productive. Ah well. Just the way it goes.8888888888888888888888888888888888888uiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii8

Sorry--Sheba typed that. Figured I'd just leave it. Cat artifacts online. haha

I think Dee is spot on with her comments. There is so much to consider in these images, and they are all personal and very human. They are simple yet quite striking. And indirect--they suggest rather than tell. I'm glad to hear your instructor had good comments to make. That's ALWAYS a good thing.
