New Favorite Pic of Ryan

Have lots more film to post but for now I will post only this shot. I love it so much I just feel it needs a post of its own. : )

Taken with my Holga on color film and converted to b&w for my midterm but I like it more in black and white so I think I'll just leave it this way. I think this was 160s color 120 film. I believe so. Its either that or 160c but it wasnt very contrasty so I think it was the S version.

Don't you just love what the plastic lens does with the sun? Crazy curves and glare, but no real lens "flare".

I like the dust mask he's wearing. It tells me that he's in the desert and not at the beach or some other wide open space, and the Holga, of course, adds the feeling of memory or dream. In this case, with the play of light from the sun shining directly in front of the lens, there is also an element of separation between subject and viewer. This exaggerates that feeling of being somewhat removed from the moment the image was actually made--again, dream/memory. I also like that little moment of near crispness on his shoulder where the light hits it--a place to move in and out of the image.
