Thank you Kelly! Its my favorite out of the three as well.
And from what I understand, it takes a rodent to kill a Joshua tree, among other things. But I guess during droughts, ground squirrels each the roots and the trees die. Sometimes they die like this one and other times they fall over whole and slowly turn yellow until eventually they turn the color of the sand they fell into.

I like the dead Joshua tree--dreamy and sad. Wonder what it takes to kill a Joshua tree?
