Light and Ice

Shots that just happened.

What you are seeing are greyscale conversions of a large piece of ice sitting in front of my monitor at night. With all the colors shining through, it was so beautiful that I had to grab a few shots.

All shots were taken with the Lensbaby.

Im planning on entering 3 to 5 of these images into a contest so if anybody would like to tell me which ones they like the most, I would be very grateful.

Aurora

Sun Spot

Comet

Tail End

Surface

Dunes

Wave

Sun Spot 2

I love the abstract nature of these! They are so organic, some look like bones and others resemble smoke. You've made me curious about the color though as it was part of what drew you to what you were looking at in the first place. Strange how they give the illusion of space, when it's only as deep as the sheet of ice you were looking through. I also like the way you see celestial phenomenon in there as well. I know that's something you're partial to.

Side note: Did you hear that the final reno for the Hubble telescope was finished up the other day? It got a fresh set of batteries and some protective coverings here and there, along with a few other new bits and bobs, but that's it--forever. They expect the fix-ups to last no more than 10 years. It's so sad as so many beautiful and revealing photographs and discoveries were made using that thing. It will be a sad, sad day when it stops working for the last time and just dies up there. Moving on....

Well, let's see....I think Comet, Tail End, Surface, Dunes, and Wave work best as a cohesive group, but I love the textures in Aurora, Sunspot, Comet, Wave, and Sunspot 2 as well. Tough call. I really like them all and think they should be printed LARGE and old school--on a good fiber paper in a B&W darkroom!!

I didnt know they were finished with the Hubble. I agree, it will be very sad when that scope takes its last image. Historically sad. I can still remember those first pillar of creation images in NatGeo so many years ago and dad telling me that they were more than 300 light years high. I love the Hubble website too. So many wonderful images.

I will post the color images as soon as I edit them all. I have to resize them for the blog.

Yeah, it is interesting that I like them so much in B&W when it was the color that drew me in. When I converted the first one though and saw the light all by itself without all that color distracting my eye, I was blown away by how beautiful the light was and suddenly that was all that mattered.

I like the group you picked out. I like those images the most as well and was just telling Sheina that. I think I will submit those and maybe I will ask A&I to print a few of them out. I've been wanting to do that and the prints arent too expensive so I think maybe I will do that.

Thank you so much for your comments and input and advice. Im excited about this and Im excited about getting some of these printed. Im going to have to see about a frame though. Shit, how do you frame prints? LOL! I have no idea!

I love Dunes, Waves, and Sun Spots 2.

You know I love that you named them after natural elements, right?

:)
